The Labyrinth

SHOW SYNOPSIS - A knight must rescue a princess in a labyrinth before a mythical creature finds her in the maze. A battle ensues in the end where the knight dies while injuring the creature. The princess finishes off the creature with the knights sword.

DRILL SUGGESTIONS

Drill formations throughout the show could include various maze formations where the 3 characters weave in and out. A tight labyrinth design at the end could have the band members kneeling after the last hit, revealing the characters in the center. Showing the Knight lying on the ground and the princess killing the creature.

Oboe soloist can be subbed by Alto Sax

SFX can be played from a CD or imported into a computer

Keyboard Parts could be played on mallet instruments

MUSIC DESCRIPTIONS

PRE SHOW - 3/4 Time Signature. BPM = 89 TRT = 2:02 - Features synth and mallet intro with Voice Over setting up the story. Oboe soloist with solo French Horn counter. Slight retard and crescendo leading into the 1st Movement.

1ST MOVEMENT - Time Signatures float between 2/4 and 3/4. BPM = 104 with accelerando leading into the 2nd Movement. TRT = :55 - Features heavy etherial synths and mallets with a tease of the theme from the ensemble.

2ND MOVEMENT - 4/4 and 2/4Time Signatures BPM = 136, 150, and 172 TRT = 1:34. Theme is well established with full ensemble participation. Difficult 16th parts in woodwinds and mallets. Space Chord in the ensemble.

3RD MOVEMENT - 4/4 Time Signature BPM = 80, 82, 135 TRT = 2:13 Features Oboe solo at the beginning, a brief Soli section with Flutes and Piccolo, an 8 bar Battery break and a slowed segway section that leads directly into the last movement.

4TH MOVEMENT - 3/4 and 4/4 Time Signatures BPM = 74, 162, 72 TRT = 2:42. Features duet between the Oboe and French Horn soloists, exciting climatic hits towards the end all winding down to a poignant ending with SFX, synths and mallets.
